I told you we were going to make this the best thing to happen to Black Art since the Harlem Renaissance. In two days, I've connected with two of the up and coming (arguably already arrived) heavyweights in African American Art - Justin Bua and Kadir Nelson.
Bua (www.JustinBua.com) took my call while he was driving around LA with his kids (so thanks Justin) and we spoke briefly (I don't need to talk long to communicate what we're trying to do over here), but he has enthusiastically agreed to join our community and help us get to the next level. His assistant Lisa is going to be working closely with us to get his profile up and eventually a feature. Kadir, (www.KadirNelson.com) who's among my list of favorite artists/illustrators/authors of all time hit me back after I left him a voicemail yesterday. Although I expect to finally get in touch with some of these folks, it always amazes me how accessible some of our higher-profile artists are, but then again, we're artists. For God's sake, Kadir is on OPRAH'S Bookclub right now, has done a book with Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith, and more... How many of you couldn't benefit from interacting with these artists here at BlackArtConnect.com? I know I could.
Nonetheless, Kadir and I will speak on Monday. I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve! Or KWANZAA Eve - if there exists such a day. LOL! I'll update you next week.
