On the premise that Black American visual artists and creative professionals need to cultivate a literal language to articulate the distinctive aspects of their resulting works I use the terms "Rhythmism" and the "Black Age of Comics". The Black Age movement now boasts four annual conventions in the USA. Philadelphia, Atlanta, Detroit, and Chicago are the host sites. Google the term Black Age of Comics to learn more about this growing force in the visual arts.
Rhythmism is the esthetic definition of the future-primitf stylizations I tend to explore in fine or commercial art. I have used it with mainstream clients, in my own personal works, private commissions, and my graphic novels. In most cases by having a language that goes beyond "my work is personal" or "you can't put art in a catergory" my critics and clients are able to define and appreciate the potential and real value of these concepts. Like music is always addressed by catergory. Jazz, Blues, House, or Hip Hop. mainstream art is defined my terms like Impressionism, Cubism, Art Deco, Genre Art or Neo-Classical. I contend we need to refine and define all that is now addressed as
Black Art. Our audiences are waiting for us and need the linguistic tools to better support all of us.
