Chicago Artist's Resource (382 hits)

Call for Submissions / Proposals
Call Type: Exhibitions
Deadline Type: fixed
Deadline: 5/21/2010
Eligibility: Chicago-City

Noble & Superior Projects is proud to announce our first open call for submissions. YOUNGER THAN JANIS is a celebration of youth and beauty, an exaltation of inevitable failure and a blatant disregard to the fear of mortality. Janis Joplin, one of a number of iconic figures who died at or near the age of 27, is a broad metaphor for the importance of free expression of youth and its potential to have enduring relevance, long past the life of the creator.

We are seeking emerging and mid-career artists, musicians, and filmmakers whose production is directly connected to their youth, who address their naivety or the conditions of their generation directly, or who intentionally ignore them completely. The show will spotlight the low-stakes experimentation offered by youth while emphasizing the clear and essential truths that resound with human beings from any generation.

YOUNGER THAN JANIS is a month-long exhibition with a 2-night opening reception. The first night (July 9) will feature refreshments and musical performances and the following evening (July 10) will feature film/video screenings and an outdoor barbecue, celebrating the fleeting beauty of summer.

Criteria for submission:
*Entrants must be under 28 years of age

*All entries must explore aforementioned concepts of youth and beauty
*Musicians and sound artists must submit their work in physical form or via MP3 (no myspace please)
*Entries must be accompanied by a statement of each component's relevance to the aforementioned concept
*Portfolios for visual/installation artists must be a compact zipped file or sent to the address below in physical form.
*Film/Video artists must accompany links or a DVD (preferred) with a description of the work. Filmmakers may submit related works via link or DVD should your work need to be screened on film
*All artists must submit a description of images/video/music, media used, and dimensions if applicable

*Artists are responsible for shipping and production costs of projects
*Gallery dimensions and equipment list available upon request
