HOW TO WRITE A PLAY (Part 3 of 3) (1376 hits)

In the Spotlight this week is the 2nd Annual LIGHTHOUSE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (LIFF). Offering a whirlwind weekend of films, networking, parties, and surfing, LIFF attracts some of the industry's top film critics, producers and distributors to this sandy 18-mile stretch of New Jersey's Long Beach Island.

In just a short time, LIFF has quickly grown into one of the hottest young film events in the Northeast. LIFF's debut event in 2009 launched with the East coast premiere of Robert Siegel's BIG FAN and went on to screen over 50 short films, documentaries and narrative features from around the world - some of which had premiered at Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca, and SXSW - and included special categories for student and surfing films. The festival closed with the East Coast premiere of MADE IN CHINA, recipient of the Grand Jury Award for Narrative Features at SXSW.

Quite simply, LIFF offers filmmakers a unique opportunity to spend the weekend with fellow filmmakers and film lovers on the beach in beautiful Long Beach Island. Thanks to the legendary local hospitality, LIFF 2009 filmmakers had the opportunity to take surfing lessons from local surfing experts, enjoyed receptions each evening, and participated in various networking events, all organized and hosted by the Festival. True to form, LIFF awards the Golden Lighthouse for the best narrative feature, best documentary feature, and best short film at an awards ceremony on the beach.

Check out the Lighthouse International Film Festival and take notes about Submission Calls, etc. Ask yourself what is the best film festival to submit your work and why? Set a tentative date with a goal of submitting in an upcoming film festival (next year). Please share.

VISIT: The Hollywood Black Film Festival at www.hbff.org

and compare it to the Lighthouse International Film Festival at

Ask yourself what are some of the differences you notice in submission requirements and what are the similarities? You should plan to make your Script adaptable to both film festivals with minimal effort.

Do some research into these and see ya next week ...
