Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (PRWEB) September 23, 2009 -- Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale / Nova Southeastern University is calling artists from around the world to participate in the National Art Festival, one of South Florida's most prestigious art shows. The event will be held Saturday, Jan. 30-Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Applications for artists interested in participating are being accepted now.
The 2009 National Art Festival was a huge success, attracting thousands of visitors and patrons. Again this year, artists in the juried event will showcase work in a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, glass, mixed media, ceramics, metalwork, photography, jewelry, and more. All items will be available for purchase and some artists will work on a commission-basis.
The Museum is proud to present a repeat of last year's special feature, Artist Showcase 2010. A The jury panel will select a piece from some of the Festival's top artists to have on view in the Museum during the event. These artists will represent a sample of all the different styles of work on view in the Art Festival.
The Festival will also include the JM Family Art Corner, where aspiring artists of all ages can sketch from a live model, still-life, or surrounding landscape. The Art Corner highlights the Museum's Studio School program, which offers a variety of courses for children in grades 1-12 and adults of all skill levels year round. Sessions include Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer Nights of Art for Adults and Creative Summer Art Academy for students in grades 1 - 12.
The rain-or-shine Festival will be held in beautiful Huizenga Plaza, situated along historic Las Olas Boulevard and Andrews Avenue. Patrons will enjoy live music and performances by area school groups in Huizenga Plaza's amphitheater as well as a delectable selection of food. Throughout the weekend, enjoy a glass of wine, beer or cup of gourmet coffee from the Museum's Cafe.
A suggested, voluntary donation of $5 per person is requested for admittance to the Festival. All Festival proceeds benefit the Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale's Studio School Scholarship Fund, which offers both merit and need-based scholarships to students in grades 1-12 year-round. The Studio School has awarded over 500 scholarships since its inception in 2005.
With their $5 Festival donation, patrons will have the opportunity to enjoy the second floor Museum exhibitions including With You I Want to Live: Gordon Locksley & George T. Shea Collection, Glackens as Illustrator, as well as the Museum's permanent collections The Spectacle of Life: The Art of William Glackens, CoBrA, The Indigo Room or Is Memory Water Soluble, Constructed Reliefs from the Maurice and Sarah Lipschultz Collection, and Conrad Marca-Relli. Museum admission for the day to the special ticketed exhibition American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell, on view November 14, 2009 to February 7, 2010 will be available for an additional fee.
The official festival kickoff will take place on Saturday morning, with a special Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale Members Only Art For Breakfast event. Details are to be announced; please contact the Museum for more information.

The Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale, a division of Nova Southeastern University, is open Tuesday - Saturday 11 am - 5 pm with extended hours on Thursday until 8 pm, Sundays 12 pm - 5 pm and closed on Mondays. The Museum of Art is located at One East Las Olas Boulevard at Andrews Avenue in Downtown Fort Lauderdale. The Studio School offers curriculum-based art classes for adults and students in grades 1 to 12, over a 10-week period. Several sessions are available throughout the year including our Creative Summer Art Academy during the summer break. Courses on painting, drawing, design, art history, and musical theater.
