Even with most weather-reports predicting torrential rains throughout the weekend, the Emanuel Artist’s Guild and Emanuel Arts Council held out faith that this weekend’s 5th Annual Emanuel Arts Festival would be spared. By 10 a.m., when the Festival began this past Saturday, the clouds had parted and vendors were glad they have tents up to shade them from the sun. Saturday ended up being a beautiful day full of fun and festivities for the whole family. The 5th annual Emanuel Arts Festival took place in Downtown Swainsboro and was truly a celebration of the Arts in Emanuel County.
The Downtown Square was full of Art vendors selling everything from photographs to paintings, home-made knives made from rail-road spikes to home-made soaps, original mugs to jewelry. Visitors walked around the Arts Market perusing arts and crafts made by local artists. Beside the arts market were food vendors selling a wide-variety of food and drinks for visitors. As people walked from one place to the other, there was a sense of camaraderie. The layout of the Arts Emanuel Festival offered families the opportunity to explore a wide variety of activities.
On Green Street, classic cars were displayed on the corner of West Main. Beside the cars, children and adults used the street and sidewalk to create original pieces of artwork from colored chalk for a sidewalk arts contest and the communal chalk mandala. On the Boneyard, children’s activities included Spin Art, Make Your Own Boomerang, and Jewelry Making. Live music, dance performances, art workshops, and a contest for Skate Boarders were held on the Boneyard as well. The day finished out with a communal drum circle for everyone involved. Children and adults played drums together and danced under the pavilion. The 5th annual Emanuel Arts Festival was a celebration of all the arts in Emanuel County. The event exists for the community, has been supported by the community, and will continue to expand each year as a celebration of our community.
