An exhibit of African art, including about 20 pieces from Southern University at New Orleans that were restored after festering in Hurricane Katrina's floodwaters, will open Friday at 6 p.m. at the New Orleans African-American Museum of Art, Culture and History at 1418 Gov. Nicholls St.
Admission to the opening reception of "African Cultural Connections" is free and will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Regular admission to the exhibition, which runs through Jan. 2, is $5 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens, and $2 for children ages 2-12.
In addition to the SUNO pieces, it will include items from the William and Jane Bertrand Collection, which are part of the museum's holdings, and the collection that former SUNO Chancellor Robert Gex gave the school when he died.
In addition to the repaired pieces that will be at the museum, 565 are ready for public viewing, Hill said, and about 300 need more treatment.
