Ro Gallery auction to feature diverse selection of artworks (109 hits)


LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y. - Ro Gallery will present more than 360 lots of paintings, prints, sculptures and photographs at a Modern and Contemporary Art Auction on Sept. 17 beginning at 1 p.m. Artists will include Pablo Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg, Juan Miro, Romare Bearden, Dimitrie Berea and Rufino Tamayo. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide Internet live bidding.
Several works by Romare Bearden (American, 1911-1988) are featured in the sale including a 1981 ink, dye paint and collage titled Memories #2. The nearly 9- by 10-inch work has a $90,000-$120,000 estimate. A circa 1975 watercolor by Bearden, an African-American artist who worked much of his career in Harlem, depicts a figure in the jungle and has a $60,000-$80,000 estimate.

An oil on canvas portrait of Salvador Dali in Paris by Dimitrie Berea (Romanian, 1908-1975) has a $20,000-$25,000 estimate. The 1968 work measures 22 by 18 inches.

Mexican master Rufino Tamayo (1899-1991) is represented with a 1969 signed and numbered lithograph titled Mujer con Medias Malva from the Mujer Suite. From an edition of 150, the litho measures 30 by 22 1/2 inches and has a $2,500-$3,500 estimate.

Delahaye, a dead-on rendition of the famed French luxury automobile by Phyllis Krim, has a $12,500-$15,000 estimate. The 1978 acrylic on canvas painting measures 45 by 54 inches.

Works by Picasso include a 1931 drypoint etching titled Homme Devoilant Une Femme (Man Unveiling a Woman) estimated at $40,000-$60,000 and a 1955 white earthenware plate decorated with the face of a faun, which has a &6.000-$8,000 estimate.
