ATLANTA, GA.- This summer the Atlanta Botanical Garden and the High Museum of Art have joined together for a special “Moore & Monet” joint discounted-admission offer to “Moore in America: The Monumental Sculpture of Henry Moore” at the Garden and “Monet Water Lilies” at the High. The joint ticket also gives visitors access to other special exhibitions and collections at both venues. The offer will run through the closing of “Monet Water Liles” on August 23, 2009. The High Museum of Art will present an exhibition of four masterpieces by Claude Monet from the collection of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York. The installation will feature MoMA’s renowned 42-foot-wide triptych, “Reflections of Clouds on the Water-Lily Pond,” which is the largest “Water Lilies” painting in the U.S. The High’s presentation of “Monet Water Lilies” launches a multi-year, multi-exhibition collaboration between the High and MoMA, with additional exhibitions currently under development for 2011 through 2013.
Members of both the Garden and the High will also receive special benefits on Thursdays, including two-for-one admission to the High or the Garden (available via walk-up only) and ten percent off purchases in the gifts shops and cafés. Members must show current, valid membership card and a picture I.D. to receive these offers.
“ Moore in America : The Monumental Sculpture of Henry Moore” is the largest outdoor special exhibition of the acclaimed modern artist’s sculptures ever assembled in the United States . Twenty large-scale sculptures by British artist Henry Moore (1898–1986), one of the most important sculptors of the twentieth century, are on view throughout the Atlanta Botanical Garden for visitors to discover as they explore unique plant collections and seasonal displays. The Garden is collaborating with The New York Botanical Garden and The Henry Moore Foundation to bring “ Moore in America ” to Atlanta . The exhibition is sponsored nationally by MetLife Foundation and supported locally by UPS, and will be on view through October 31, 2009.
“Monet Water Lilies” presents four masterpieces by French artist Claude Monet (1840–1926) from the collection of The Museum of Modern Art, New York (MoMA). The installation features MoMA’s renowned 42-foot-wide triptych “Reflections of Clouds on the Water-Lily Pond,” which is the largest “Water Lilies” painting in the U.S. Also included is another monumental painting of water lilies in the Japanese-style pond that Monet cultivated on his property in Giverny, France (“Water Lilies,” ca. 1920), as well as “The Japanese Footbridge” (ca. 1920–1922) and “Agapanthus” (1918–1919). Lead sponsorship for “Monet Water Lilies” and the MoMA collaboration will be provided by Bank of America. Additional support has been provided by individual donors through the Modern Masters Circle of the High Museum of Art and through a planning grant from The Rich Foundation.
