Robert Colescott dies at 83 (45 hits)


African American artist skewered stereotypes with wit and explosive style
Robert Colescott in 1997, shortly before the Venice Biennale. The painting is “Ode to Joy (European Anthem).”
Best known for reworking masterpieces of European and American art history, Colescott was the first black American to represent the United States at the Venice Biennale.
