HISTORY
Duke Realty Corporation was founded in 1972 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The first property developed was Building One at Park 100 Industrial Park on the Northwest side of Indianapolis. More than thirty years later, Park 100 is now one of the largest industrial parks in the United States. In the late 1970s, Duke expanded both by product type and geographically. With the acquisition of Keystone at the Crossing in Indianapolis, the office and retail development business began. The Company also opened an office in Cincinnati, Ohio. Throughout the 1980s, Duke grew in industrial, office and retail development and ownership. The Company also expanded into Nashville and Columbus, becoming one of the largest developers and property owners in each of these cities. In October of 1993, Duke went public with an Initial Public Offering that raised $313 million and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. At the time of the IPO, Duke owned a total of 10 million square feet of property. Following this public offering, Duke continued its expansion throughout the Midwest by establishing offices in Cleveland, St. Louis, Chicago and Minneapolis. In 1999, Duke merged with the Weeks Corporation and expanded its presence to six additional cities: Atlanta, Dallas, Raleigh, Orlando, Tampa and Ft. Lauderdale. Today, Duke is the largest, publicly-traded, office and industrial property owner in the country with a dominating presence throughout the Midwest and Southeast, with total property ownership of more than 115 million square feet. Since its founding in 1972, Duke has performed property construction through its in-house construction company. Today, Duke Construction is one of the largest contractors in the United States, building all Duke-owned buildings as well as providing construction services to customers throughout the country.
